Global Warming and Climate Change – depth information you should know

global warming You global warming and climate change global warming global warming is a climatological  phenomenon in which the global temperature is  rising because of increasing concentrations of  green house gases in the atmosphere wire if the  surface is warming our Sun which is reasonably  hot sends us a mixture of various rays.

global warming

which  is composed for 10% of UV 40% of visible  light and 50% of infrared when the incoming  solar radiation arrives at the top of the  atmosphere it is directly reflected towards  space by clouds and the various layers of  the atmosphere the remainder of this incoming  energy is absorbed by the various components  of our planet such as atmosphere earth surface  ocean etc since.

The Earth’s surface is colder  than the Sun it radiates heat back to the  atmosphere in the form of infrared energy most of the emitted infrared radiation is  absorbed by the atmosphere and warms in  so the atmosphere also gains heat and radiates  energy both upwards and downwards the downward  radiation is absorbed by the Earth’s surface and  the upward radiation is reflected back to spaceas we know our atmosphere of earth is a  layer of gases.

nitrogen and  oxygen that form most of the atmosphere do  not absorb the infrared radiation so they  do not contribute to warming the earth but the green house gas molecules mainly carbon dioxide and water vapor absorbed.

The sun’s radiation as infrared  some goes back into outer space  and most of the energy towards the Earth’s surface thus the greenhouse gases warming up the atmosphere and also the Earth’s surface which  is called green house effect in this way the earth maintains a stable average temperature without these green house gases surface temperatures.

Would be cooler and many life forms would freeze thanks to this natural green house gases because  it keeps our average temperature is comfortable when the concentrations of green house gases increase then when a temperature of the atmosphere also be increased which leading to the warming of the Earth’s surface.

Because too much green house gases trap more and more radiations that cannot escape to the space as a result radiations remain in our Earth’s atmosphere this causes earth to warm up so the higher concentrations of green house gas responsible for global warming contributors of the green house gases both nature and human activities are.

worst impact of global warming on our earth

Climate change is one of humanity’s most severe and urgent challenges. As can be expected from anything that has a world wide impact, climate change and global warming are often shrouded in controversy and competing narratives. With that in mind, let’s begin by understanding what exactly climate change is and what makesit so dreadful for our planet.

global warming

Global warming is formally defined as a rise in Earth’s temperature that persists for adecade or longer. There could be several causes for climate change, but the biggest one is the rising concentration of green house gases.

Simply put, green house gases are those gases in our atmosphere that trap heat. global warming Some examples include carbon dioxide, methane, chlorofluoro carbons, nitrous oxide and ozone. How these gases affect climate change depends on their amount and their global warming potentialor GWP. This metric tells us how long a gas remains in the atmosphere, on average, and how stronglyit absorbs energy.

Naturally, gases with a higher GWP absorb more heat, and thus contribute more to increasing Earth’s overall temperature, or in other words, warming it.

Indeed, fossil fuels’ contribution to green house gas emissions is the largest, in the range of 70- 80% of total emissions. Agriculture is another serious factor; green house gas emissions from agriculture come from live stock, such as cows, agricultural soils, and rice production, and are in the range of 10-15%of all emissions.

The share of changes in land use patterns represents 5-10% of all emissions. Carbon dioxide concentration is the highest among all green house gases in the atmosphere; therefore, it is a significant contributor to global warming.

Since the industrial revolution, a drastic increase in economic activity has triggereda sharp uptick in carbon dioxide emissions worldwide. This is why rising carbon dioxide emission is a point of great concern to every nationon the planet.

The rise in global temperature changes several other weather patterns and geographical conditions.

For example,

an increase in temperature directly impacts the snow, river and lake ice, seaice, glaciers, ice caps, ice shelves and ice sheets, as well as frozen ground, also known as permafrost. The rising surface temperature causes a decline in ice mass. Ice mass measurement by NASA’s satellite shows that the Antarctic and Greenland mass is declining at an unprecedented rate.

Further more, oceans absorb almost 90% of the excess heat from the surrounding air, making it warmer. Although most of the heat is absorbed in the surface, as the rate of warming increases, the heat permeates to deeper waters and harms marine ecosystems.

Satellite observations indicate that the sea height is increasing rapidly and will continue to rise at an increasingly rapid pace. The rise in sea levels negatively affects the populace of coastal areas. It also plays a role in flooding and leads to an increase in storms.

Some extreme weather events include floods, droughts, hurricanes, and heat waves. Weather and climate extremes occur when the weather or climate metric is above or belowa threshold value of the variable.

Some of the changes in weather patterns include an increase in the number of warm days and nights, a decrease in cold days and nights, and an increase in the frequency and intensity of daily temperature extremes. As you can imagine, climate change or global warming doesn’t happen overnight; these changes occur over decades or even centuries. Thus, it stands to reason that it’s impossible to either stop or completely reverse its effects in just a few weeks or months.

However, as a community, we could do many things to slow down global warming and eventually embrace ways to stop or reverse it. The first and most crucial aspect of recovery is awareness, namely understanding and spreading awareness about the risks associated with climate change. On a personal level, we could look at our transportation and power consumption habits.

Since industrial and automobile emissions, along with the consumption of electricity, which is primarily generated by burning fossil fuels, are the most significant reasons for increasing carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere, rethinking these consumption patterns would make a measurable dent in our collective carbon emissions.

Climate change is a real threat, but if we all come together, take a stand, and be more environmentally conscious in our decisions, we can still save our beautiful blue planet.

What If We Don’t Stop Global Warming?

We hada mere 11 years to prevent irreversible damage brought about by climate change but how plausible isn’t that we can do what is needed within that time range and just how close are we to a disaster so what will happen if we don’t manage to stop global warming since the start of the 20th century the average global sea level has been steadily rising according to the climate science special report between.

global warming

The years 1900 and 2016 sea levels have risen by six point three to eight point three inches according to studies by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences this is almost entirely due to man made climate change melting ice in the Arctic ice cover and the Arctic Ocean has declined annually by 17 thousand square miles to.

The size of New Jersey and roughly seventeen thousand times the size of Riverside Country Park what’s not helping matters is that at the exact same time as the ice is melting global warming is causing something called thermal expansion to quote Volume one ofphysics for scientists and engineers thermal expansion is the tendency of matter to change in.

Its shape area and volume in response to a change in temperature the heat of the climate is causing the oceans to expand that alone is adding a deeply worrying amount of extra water to the world’s oceans and that’s without even taking into account the seventeen thousand square miles of melting ice all that extra water all at once is causing a truly daunting rise in sea levels in the longer term.

This looks like it gets notably worse there is a significant concern among the scientific community regarding the stability of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet also known as the WAIS the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is the continental ice sheet that covers West Antarctica according to installment 35 of the geophysical research letters the three glaciers.

That make up the WAIS are losing mass at an alarmingly increasing rate and the data reveals they are losing more ice than is being replaced by snowfall if we go by a preliminary analysis the difference between the mass lost and mass replaced is about 60 percent the melting of these three glaciers is contributing an estimated point zero.

Zero nine four inches peryear to the rise in the world wide sea level the latest thinking when it comes to looking at the future is that the WAIS is probably going to collapse entirely that is an awful lot of extra water current estimations suggest that the WAIS will completely collapse within a millennium but if things continue to go the way they are it could collapse in its entirety just three hundred years from.

Now Greenland’s ice sheet is in a similarly dire situation James Hansen an American adjunct professor and director of the program on climate science awareness and solutions has suggested that by the year 2100 Greenland’s ice sheet will have completely melte draising the world wide sea level by 23 feet to put that size into perspective.

That’s two feet taller than Washington’s nose on Mount Rush more higher sea levels could impact tens of millions of people and Wild life all over the world those who live on Islands or coasts will be badly affected another major aspect of global warming is that rainfall snow fall and all other types of precipitation will be heavier.

Than ever and that means an increase in flood risks are inevitable this looks to be a pretty serious problem for Europe in particular which will be at an increased risk finland flash floods more frequent coastal flooding and increase erosion from sea level rise but it’s not rising sea levels that are the only way in which our oceans will be affected a major concern is ocean deoxygenation.

Ocean deoxy genation is the expansion of oxygen minimum zone in the world’s oceanas a consequence of anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide the change has been fairly rapid and poses a threat to fish and other types of marine life as well as to people who depend on marine life for nutrition or live lihood across the world’s oceans.

There are various pockets with little to no oxygen known as oxygen minimum zone x’ they area natural phenomenon caused by ocean circulation moving worryingly slow the oxygen levels in these zones are so low that they are lethal to almost all marine life what we are seeing happen is that these zones are expanding direct measurements show that.

The amount of oxygen in oceans around the world has decreased by around 2 percent over the last five decades climate change is universally thought to be the primary cause of this so as time rolls on that figure will substantially grow and the risk of deoxygenation is not restricted to areas already low on oxygen.

global warming

It’s already occurring at all oxygen concentration in all ocean basins and the problem is growing every day the oxygen in sea water is essential for all higher marine life to survive simply put the oceans are getting hotter and have less oxygen and of course the marine animals are dying imagine if your house kept getting warmer and warmer and running out of air imagine.

How uncomfortable you’d be you would bed esperate to get out but obviously marine life can escape the ocean and are trapped there this all might sound a little far-fetched but a significantrise in flooding is something that’s already happening and will only happen more if we continue down this devastating global warming trend and there are even more troubling things on.

The horizon when you’re too hot it’s uncomfortable right you crack a window or you may turn up the AC to fix the problem well animals and plants get just is uncomfortable but they can’t alleviate their pain as weekend as the Earth continues to warm up crucial habitats will become in hospitable for many plants and animals.

They are going to suffer and they are going to struggle to survive in circumstances that they are not accustomed to as a result a variety of species will be at risk of permanent extinction sure some may adaptor move there is no way to know for sure but many may struggle to adapt quickly enough and will go extinct in the blink of an eye.

The planet has gotten hotter before and animals and plants have often survived by evolving but what’s different about this time is that it’s happening too fast for the animals and plants that are at risk to adapt again this is something that’s estimated to hit Europe pretty hard according to the USGS the continent looks to suffer extensive species loss along with a severe reduction in crop productivity as bad as this may already sound rising sea levels and mass animal extinction are only.

The beginning of where global warming is going to take us to better understand other future possibilities we need to address a common misconception people assume climate and weather are synonyms like ancient and aged but in reality there is a key difference that is vital to understanding the realities of climate change some people might use.

The fact it still snows as evidence that something called global warming can’t be happening because how could the planet be warming up and create snow this comes down to a misunderstanding in regard to the words used as explained by National Geographic a higher temperature can actually cause more rain and more snow think about it sometimes.

When it’s really hot in the evening what happens in a thunder storm a sudden down pour of rain the crash of thunder a ripple of lightning that is all triggered by a hot the planet getting hotter doesn’t mean we’re about to get non-stop sun shine global warming means the weather the world over is going to be more mercurial than ever there will be intense heat waves.

You expect but there will also bean increase in heavy rain thunder storms and intense snowy blizzards fluctuations of extreme weather of course means certain areas will experience much hotter days than people traditionally associate with the phrase global warming to quote skeptical science calm global warming is causing more frequent.

Heat waves record-breaking temperatures are already happening five times more often than they would without any human causedglobal warming this means that there isan 80% chance that any monthly heat record today is due to human industry skeptical science also predicts that if we continue down the path we are heat waves will become a norm across large chunks of the world by around the late 21st century the Amazon rain forest is a great.

example

Of some where that is already struggling because of such heat waves back in 2005 an intense heat wave caused one of the worst droughts in human history rivers all but dried up remote communities became isolated commerce stopped dead and thousands upon thousands of square miles of land burned for months on end this raging fire released more than 100 million metric tons of carbon into the atmosphere jump ahead to August 2019.

The month and year in which this very script I’m reading was written and the samething is happening again the Amazon is a blaze right now and spontaneous heat wave induced fires such as these are only going to grow all the more common according to Green peace each year the Amazon fire season gets longer between1979 to 2013.

The annual fire season increased by 18 point 7 percent sure many forests have a fire season and July to November is fire season for the Amazon but the fires in the Amazon right no ware far from natural and incredibly worrying on an epic scalein summary heat waves are causing droughts strong enough to burn forests sea levels are rising to dangerous.

Levels fish are dying land animals are going extinct and the weather is becoming increasingly erratic rendering the concept of seasons pointless if we don’t stop local warming all of those already present issues will escalate toun precedented and dangerous levels what do you think needs to be done to stop global warming in its tracks and are you ready to do your part let us know in th ecomments section below.
